Infant Circumcision in Regina, Swift Current & Saskatoon

We believe that there is nothing better for ensuring a baby’s comfort than the presence of a parent. Your baby is always with you, and you are welcome and encouraged to be in the private room during the procedure. Parents are never asked to wait in another room while the circumcision is being done.

Babies, if they remain awake during the procedure, are soothed by a pacifier made up of natural ingredients. At Gentle Procedures, it is not uncommon for babies to sleep right through their circumcision. We really are gentle.

We recognize that warmth is part of a comfortable environment for your baby. The procedure room will be kept warm and is equipped with a local thermostat so that we can create the right temperature for babies.

Adult Circumcision Clinic for Saskatchewan

Adult circumcision is undertaken by our clients for personal, cosmetic, and cultural reasons.

Whatever the reason a mature man seeks to get circumcised (at any age), we are pleased to offer adult circumcision care at our SK clinics. Our circumcision doctor performs adult circumcision on a daily basis and our proven Pollock Technique™ is known to deliver the desired cosmetic results with the minimum of discomfort.

Importantly – a general anaesthetic is not required – and this significantly reduces the risk and complexity of the procedure. With the use of multiple local anaesthetics only, we eliminate the need for a full hospital setting and are able to provide adult circumcision in Saskatoon and Regina in a quick and convenient way.

Circumcision Research & Considerations

Each year, there are millions of circumcisions performed worldwide. The medical benefits accrue from infancy through old age.

It is Doctor Mulla’s position that when parents are making a decision about circumcision, they should be advised of the present state of medical knowledge about its benefits and harms. The parental decision may ultimately be based on personal, religious, or cultural factors.

For more information on the risks and benefits of circumcision, please visit our Media page to find links to original policy statements and studies – including a 2016 paper published in the Journal of Urology which concludes that the benefits of circumcision may have been previously understated. The authors (including Dr. Neil Pollock) find that circumcision affords important benefits to men throughout their lives.

Our Gentle Procedures Clinics are highly referred to in Saskatchewan. Our clinics are often recommended by family physicians because of the speedy and relatively pain free nature of our chosen Pollock Technique™. Our doctor and staff are also known for their caring approach and our focus on quality of care.

Dr. Amith Mulla uses a circumcision method which is relatively quick, taking just minutes for infants.

Our clinics use comprehensive pain control methods which include infant acetaminophen along with a sugar solution (which reduces pain perception in infants), a topical cream to numb the area, and a local anaesthetic injection.

Our method has low complication rates.

Our circumcision procedures are done quickly in a clinic setting, eliminating the need for hospital visits and general anaesthetic.

An infant circumcision is often undertaken for cultural and religious reasons, and there can be health benefits as well. Our Muslim clients circumcise their babies in accordance with their traditions, and many other families simply choose to carry on a family tradition, or seek the health benefits that may come from male circumcision:

  • It reduces the risk of urinary tract infection.
  • It reduces the risk of penile infection also called Balanoposthitis.
  • It eliminates the need for circumcision later in life when up to 6% of boys will require a circumcision because of various problems.
  • It reduces the risk of getting some sexually transmitted diseases including Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and AIDS (HIV).
  • It reduces the risk of penile cancer and cervical cancer in a man’s female partners.
  • Circumcised men have less risk of sexual dysfunction later in life.

They may be concerned that they could be doing a procedure on an otherwise healthy baby that may cause pain or complications.

They wonder whether their child will wish that he had not been circumcised at a later time.

Some parents can be less interested in following cultural and religious traditions.

They are unsure of the medical reasons in favor of a circumcision.

Questions About Infant Male Circumcision in Saskatchewan

Circumcision is a simple procedure in which the foreskin that sheathes the head of the penis is removed. Since the foreskin traps bacteria and other infectious agents, its removal may improve genital hygiene and reduce the risk of disease over the lifetime of the boy and his future sexual partners.

Circumcision has been the topic of debate for many decades. In the past, procedures were deemed unnecessary and stressful by some, but times have changed somewhat. Due to medical advancements, doctors can now conduct virtually pain-free circumcision procedures which are quick, effective, and successful.

There are many significant studies and associated evidence linking circumcision to improved health and lower incidences of serious and deadly diseases. The evidence of the benefits of circumcision, coupled with medical advancements and improved circumcision techniques, has resulted in increased public awareness, acceptance, and an increase in the demand for infant circumcision.

The medical team at our Saskatchewan clinics uses the Pollock Technique™, which is very quick and virtually pain-free, and is associated with low complication rates. Our doctor and staff are all educated and trained in the procedure and are dedicated to making your experience with us as pleasant as possible.

There are some potential health benefits to male infant circumcision and there are also some reasons not to circumcise baby boys. Our recommendation is that you make an informed decision and the answer to the question of why to circumcise that you come to will be unique to you and your family.

Circumcision is part of both Judaism and Islam, and many Christians and people of other backgrounds also choose circumcision for health and cosmetic reasons, or to continue family tradition.

There are different circumcision techniques practiced by different doctors but the main circumcision types are simply circumcised and uncircumcised. We are occasionally asked about a “tight circumcision” or a “low circumcision”, but our method is designed to give the same result in all cases and we do not offer a choice of different circumcision types – we apply our method in all cases except where a patient may present with a unique situation requiring a unique approach.

While all circumcision methods generally seek a similar result, some are better than others at achieving a consistent outcome with minimal pain and risk of complications. At the Gentle Procedures Saskatchewan circumcision clinics, we use the Pollock Technique™ because we believe it is a comfortable and reliable method for male circumcision.

The method we use minimizes pain for the patient via application of multiple modalities to reduce it, including the following:

  • Infant acetaminophen before the procedure
  • Numbing cream applied before the anaesthetic injection
  • A dorsal penile block (an anaesthetic injection) that removes all feeling from the penis
  • A sugar pacifier to keep the baby distracted (not used in adult circumcisions)
  • Post-circumcision follow-up to quickly spot any issues.

Additionally, our doctor also controls environmental factors in the procedure room to maximize the patient’s comfort. We maintain the temperature at a warm and comfortable level and may play music to help provide a calm ambiance during the brief operation.
