At Gentle Procedures Saskatchewan circumcision clinics, we use the Mogen clamp technique for circumcision.

What is Our Circumcision Method?

Gentle Procedures uses the Mogen clamp method under long-acting local anaesthetic for infant circumcision.

Gentle Procedures Saskatchewan offers uninsured circumcisions for infants and babies up to 3 months old at their clinic locations in Regina, Saskatoon, and Swift Current.

This method takes only minutes for newborns. The Mogen clamp circumcision procedure is practiced more and more often around the world today. Only local anaesthetic is needed and recovery time is relatively fast.

Preparing Your Baby Boy
for Circumcision

You will receive detailed instruction on how to prepare your son for the brief circumcision operation. This includes how to best time feeding before surgery to maximize your babies comfort.

Babies will have Tylenol before and after surgery, and are given a sugary pacifier to distract and entertain them during the procedure. Some babies even sleep through the whole thing.

Please do not give any other medication besides acetaminophen because it may affect bleeding time.

Circumcised Baby Follow Up

Guidance and follow-up continues afterwards, with written and verbal instructions on how to provide care after the circumcision. The goal is to minimize your child’s discomfort and promote healing.

You will be shown how to minimize the risk of infection and informed of warning signs to watch for in case of any complications. Our doctor is available by phone after surgery and will respond quickly to any questions or concerns.

Circumcision Research & Considerations

Each year, there are millions of circumcisions performed worldwide. The parental decision may ultimately be based on personal, religious, or cultural factors.

An infant circumcision is often undertaken for cultural and religious reasons. Our Muslim clients circumcise their babies in accordance with their traditions, and many other families simply choose to carry on a family tradition.

  • It can reduce the risk of urinary tract infection.
  • It can reduce the risk of penile infection also called Balanoposthitis.
  • It can eliminate the need for circumcision later in life when up to 6% of boys will require a circumcision because of various problems.
  • It can reduce the risk of getting some sexually transmitted diseases including Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and AIDS (HIV).
  • It may reduce the risk of penile cancer and cervical cancer in a man’s female partners.
  • Circumcised men may have less risk of sexual dysfunction later in life.

They may be concerned that they could be doing a procedure on an otherwise healthy baby that may cause pain or complications.

They wonder whether their child will wish that he had not been circumcised at a later time.

Some parents can be less interested in following cultural and religious traditions.

They are unsure of the medical reasons in favor of a circumcision.

Baby Circumcision Clinic FAQ

The ideal age is within the first two weeks of birth. Since newborn babies are less aware, recover faster, and the risk of complications is lower, families should try their best to have circumcision done as close to this time period as possible. However, it is common for a variety of reasons that circumcision will be done at a later time.

It is not unusual for a baby to sleep 6 – 8 hours after the procedure and to miss a feeding. Some babies will be irritable for a number of minutes to hours afterwards. Behaviourally, most babies are back to themselves in the next day or two.
No. If you are booking for your son, it is a parental decision and we only require consent from both parents to proceed. You may book online directly or call us.

Occasionally, there can be bleeding from the circumcision many hours after the procedure. This is treated by putting some pressure with gauze on the penis for 2-3 minutes to close the oozing blood vessel (This will be demonstrated to you by our staff).

Very rarely, more serious bleeding can occur which may require a visit to the hospital. Infection is also a possible complication. It is extremely rare and can be associated with redness, pus, and a foul smell from the circumcision. It is treated by putting antibiotic ointment five times a day on the penis which usually resolves any infection within one or two days.

Healing occurs in several stages, and most newborns show signs of healing by one week. Your son will have a check up appointment a few days after circumcision so that the doctor can make sure that healing is proceeding as expected.

At Gentle Procedures Saskatchewan, we offer uninsured circumcisions for newborn boys up to 3 months old. The circumcision procedure fee is $445.
